"I'm not sure what happened," California commit Cameron Hunt said. "When I talked with Coach Michalczik on Monday, everything looked good. I heard from other people that Tedford was coming back and Coach Michalczik basically echoed that as well and said the same thing.
"I just got done with practice an hour ago and when I went to grab my phone, I had like 30 messages from people asking my thoughts on Tedford getting fired. Something must have changed overnight and it's definitely disappointing for me. Coach Tedford is one of the reasons I committed there, he's a great guy and a great coach and I'm sad to see him go."
Hunt said his commitment to Cal is still solid and he's not in any hurry to make any decisions right now.
"I'm in a good place with recruiting, I'm not really going to focus on it right now," Hunt said. "We play Upland this week and then hopefully we'll get a rematch with Vista Murrieta the following week in the championship game. That's where all my focus is right now.
"I was looking at taking a visit to Arizona State a few weeks ago but I decided I didn't want to take any trips during the season. ASU and UCLA are really the only other schools I've talked with recently but like I said, I'm not too concerned. I have a great situation at Cal and I'm just going to wait and see who they bring in. Hopefully they keep Coach Michalczik but I know that's up to the new head coach.
"Cal has a lot of young talent and had to battle a ton of injuries this year. People don't know that but the whole defensive line was hurt at different times. I think Tedford could have turned things around next year but won't get that chance now. Hopefully the new coach will get things rolling and I'm just going to be patient and let things play out."
