Green Open to New Options

FOX Sports NEXT is in the streets this fall to bring you all the coverage from across the Midlands region. Recently, we caught up with Horn linebacker D.J. Green from Mesquite, Texas. He gave us a quick recruiting update to let us know where things stand…

It seems like for the moment Mesquite (TX) Horn linebacker D.J. Green wants to keep things simple. After making a clean break from an earlier commitment to Baylor, Green has seen some action in his recruitment.

But not very much.

"It's tough for me to tell where things are right now. I'm busy with my season and so are the colleges," Green said. I don't really want to judge as to where things are right now. I mean, SMU is interested, along with Navy, Colorado and Rice."

All while this is going on, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Green has been doing well on the field. Last week his team defeated Garland 56-35 and is facing Skyline this weekend.

So far this season, Green has racked up an impressive 117 tackles and over 10 sacks. He hopes that this level of play will get him in position to pull in more offers, or get some of the interested schools to make the call.

"SMU is one of the main schools for me. I have to get things worked out with the coaching staff because they want to get me down there," Green said. "With Baylor, I was down there for the game against West Virginia. With that, it was a mutual feeling that it was not going to be a good fit."

Green was direct in saying where his focus lies as things move forward.

"I like to put my team first. My (high school) coaches say that I have grown as a player and that it shows up on the field," Green said. "With recruiting, I know that it will take up some time so when the season is over I am going to sit down and schedule some visits. It will take some time and focus to get this accomplished and while the season is going on, I don't want to be selfish."
