Simmons: Top Five Performers

Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons saw three games over the weekend and he names his top five performers here.

The games scouted: Webb (Tenn.) vs. Evangelical Christian (Tenn.), Ensworth (Tenn.) vs. Memphis University School (Tenn.), Norcross (Ga.) vs. Camden County (Ga.).

Over two dozen D1 prospects were seen and many had strong performances, but five were the best.

Shon Akins | No. 144 CB | 5-9/160 | Norcross
Akins was great at cornerback against Camden County. He had a big interception that set up a touchdown for the Blue Devils and he had a very nice hit breaking up a pass. He is very quick, he was good in run support, and he was very strong in coverage. He may not have great size, but he played big in this game.
Recruiting: Committed to California

Jarrad Davis | No. 54 OLB | 6-2/225 | Camden County
Davis was around the football all night in this game. He was popping the Norcross running backs and quarterbacks Friday night. He has really improved from a year ago. He played faster, he played with more confidence, and he was always on the attack. He did look more like an inside linebacker, so expect a position change on Scout in the near future. He gets downhill, he sets, and he hits.
Recruiting: Committed to Auburn at this time, but he will take other visits. Ole Miss offered him last week and he has been in contact with Clemson, South Carolina, and other schools since Gene Chizik was let go by AU.

Cornelius Elder | No. 25 CB | 5-10/165 | Ensworth
Elder was the top performer in his game as expected and he had 217 yards rushing and he scored three touchdowns on the ground. He is such a quick athlete and if he has the smallest crease to run through, the odds are high he is going to make a big play. He is a small back and he is not a back you see a lot getting big carries in the SEC, but if he is used properly, this young man could have a huge collegiate career. He is so quick, he has the second gear, he is shifty, and he has great vision. He has that toughness too – He likes to hit when playing safety.
Recruiting: Elder has taken an official to UCLA and was impressed by the Bruins. Ohio State and Ole Miss are in line for visits and he plans to take all five.

Alvin Kamara | No. 15 RB | 5-10/191 | Norcross
Kamara led Norcross to victory and he had 158 yards rushing on 27 carries and two touchdowns on the ground. He also threw a touchdown pass and converted on a two-point play as well. He just chewed up yards, broke tackles, and kept moving the chains for the Blue Devils. He just made crucial play after crucial play. He ran hard, he gained many of his yards after contact, and he showed great vision and balance. He is one of the top backs in the country.
Recruiting: It is an Alabama and Georgia battle and he is set to visit Alabama officially this weekend. Oregon is under consideration as well and the Ducks and Bulldogs will likely get official visits in January.

Todd Kelly, Jr. | No. 18 S | 5-11/180 | Webb
Kelly, Jr. finished with a couple of touchdowns and 118 yards on ground and he was in on a few tackles on defense including a big hit on the ball at the goalline. He showed good range in the secondary, he is a natural with the ball in his hands, and he has a very high football I.Q. He has great ball skills and he could possibly get a look as a big corner on the next level. He is a smooth football player who will be in the Scout300 all year.
Recruiting: Over 20 schools have offered and Kelly, Jr. is still open. He wants to visit some schools on the West Coast early in 2013 and then begin to narrow his list.

Others that Impressed: Myles Autry (2014 RB - Norcross), Kalvarez Bessent (2014 CB - Camden County), J.J. Green (2013 CB/RB - Camden County), Rico McGraw (2015 CB - Ensworth), and Drew Richmond (2015 OT - MUS).
