Louisiana Notebook

It's state championship week in Louisiana, and the stars will be out in force. Five-star junior defensive back Laurence Jones looks to lead Neville to its third 4A crown in four years...

  • An avalanche of talent will descend on the Superdome Friday and Saturday for the five state title games. In Class 4A, both Neville and Edna Karr are undefeated. Neville boasts four-star LSU commit John Diarse at quarterback and five-star Laurence Jones at both DB and RB.

Karr counters with five-star DE Gerald Willis and four-stars Devante Noil (QB), Noel Ellis (CB) and Standish Dobard (TE). Ellis is committed to Texas A&M, and Dobard is a Miami pledge.

  • Karr/Neville is the only rematch from last year, although John Curtis and Evangel Christian have met on multiple occasions in the past. Two years ago, Evangel defeated Curtis in the 2A finals.

Top Evangel prospects include three-star offensive lineman Josh Thomas (Houston commit) and MLB X'Zavier Preston (Oregon State commit). RB Javin Webb, who holds a Houston offer, has been a force in the playoffs.

Curtis stars include LB Duke Riley, LB Kenny Young, CB Terrence Alexander, WR Malachi Dupre, OL Brandon Godfrey (Tulane commit) and RBs Tevin Horton (ULM commit) and Sherman Badie (Tulane commit). The Patriots are without senior MLB Eric Thomas (Tulane commit), who was injured a few weeks ago.

Both Evangel and Curtis move up to 3A next year.

  • The 5A final features unbeaten Archbishop Rummel, which is ranked in the FOXSportsNEXT.com Top 50 (along with Curtis), vs. the high-flying Barbe Bucs.

Rummel QB Damian Williams is ranked nationally at his position, as is H-Back Cethan Carter. LSU is showing interest in Carter.

Barbe is coming off a miraculous come-from-behind win over West Monroe. The Bucs trailed big in the fourth quarter before rallying to edge the defending state champion Rebels by one point.

Four-star targets Trey Quinn (WR) and Desean Smith (TE) spread defenses out and allow unsung RB Courtney Galentine to work his magic.

  • Parkview Baptist takes on Notre Dame in 3A, and north Louisiana schools Haynesville and Ouachita Christian battle in 1A.

The top two seeds reached the finals in all five classes.
