Whitely a Major Force in Win

FOX Sports NEXT is in the streets this fall to bring you all the coverage from across the Midlands region. Recently, we caught up with North Shore linebacker Zac Whitely from Galena Park, Texas. The four-star middle linebacker shared a few postgame thoughts after a Round 3 playoff win in Reliant Stadium…

Most successful squads have that one guy on defense who can bring it all together. And that is what Galena Park (TX) North Shore has in linebacker Zac Whitely.

In the 17-10 win over Alief Elsik this past Saturday, he was all over the field making plays and being the emotional leader at the same time.

"Basically I had to keep my head down all game. Our main team goal was to stop that run and we stopped it," Whitely said. "Our mindset is we have to keep grinding. We are in Reliant Stadium. We have to show up."

And the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Whitely did exactly that. From sideline to sideline, Whitely was in on plays. No matter where on the field, he was near the ball. He ended the night with (unofficially) with 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a sack.

The 2014 player is already a four-star middle linebacker and is the No. 7 ranked at his position in the FOX Sports NEXT rankings. Already, Texas, Texas A&M and a host of others in the Big 12 and SEC will be looking to get in on him for next season's class.

Of course right now, that was not the concerned and was not asked postgame. He and his team have one focus.

"I feel great I just want to get back with my team and celebrate," Whitely said.

Spoken like a true team player.
