Final Four

Former Carver (GA) High School defensive back Riyahd Jones has emerged as one of the top junior college corners in the country after a solid season at Garden City Junior College. With a few weekends left before making his decision official by signing a BCS level scholarship, Jones is still in fact finding mode.

"We had a good season," said Jones. "We ended up going 7-4 this year and we beat Co-Lin in the Mississippi Bowl.

"I feel like I had a good game. I was suffering with a sore groin, so I wanted to be sure I didn't get beat deep.

"I just tried to keep everything in front of me and make the tackle.

"I feel like I played pretty well.

"We got the win and that's what matters most."

Jones will make a return trip to Mississippi this weekend.

"I am going to visit Mississippi State this weekend," said Jones. "I have been there before for some games and camps when I was coming in high school, so I already know about them.

"I am looking forward to taking the visit this weekend and see how things are since I have been there."

The Bulldogs are one of four schools still in contention for the December graduate's services.

"I am down to Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kansas State and West Virginia," said Jones. "I am going to visit Mississippi State this weekend and Kansas State next weekend.

"Kansas State is coming to see me tomorrow."

The chance to get on the field immediately is a big part of things for the talented corner.

"I want to be sure I hit my window," said Jones. "I want to work hard and have the chance to go to the NFL.

"The depth chart and early playing time are real important to me.

"I am willing to work for everything, but I want to go somewhere that I have the chance to play right away."

Jones has reports that he has a connection to one program that may prove to be a big part of his deliberations.

"My high school teammate, Artimas Samuel, is going to be enrolling at Mississippi State in January," said Jones. "That is sort of a big thing because I would already know somebody there.

"I feel like they could help me gel with the team and have somebody going through everything with me that I already know."

Jones reports that he does not favor one program over another and that he simply wants to finish out the official visit portion of the process before making the call.

"I am not sure where I am going yet," said Jones. "I want to take these visits and then take some time to think about everything before I make my commitment.

"I may not know for sure until the day before signing day.

"It's a big decision, so I want to be sure about everything. I am going to take my visits and see where I fit in best and where I have the best chance to play right away."
