Quick Hitter: Bower on Malzahn

Immaculata High (Somerville, N.J.) four-star defensive end Tashawn Bower, who is committed to Auburn, gives his initial thoughts on the Tigers' hiring of Gus Malzahn as coach.

Tashawn Bower doesn't know much about new Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, but he is excited to find out.

Bower, a four-star defensive end from Immacualata High (Somerville, N.J.) and an Auburn commit, said shortly after the news broke Malzahn would be coach, he was researching his background.

"I think it's great that Auburn has a new head coach," Bower said. "I'm excited about that. I would love to get on the phone coach Malzahn and see what he is all about."

Malzahn, 47, spent last season at Arkansas State but prior to that was the offensive coordinator at Auburn. He was also the man in charge of the offense when Cam Newton led the Tigers to a national title in 2010.

Last week Bower told FOXSportsNEXT he was talking with other schools, although he remains committed to the Tigers.

"I'm definitely still letting coaches from other schools call on the phone just so they know that if this doesn't work, I still have genuine interest from these other schools," Bower said a few days ago.
