"I am officially decommitting," Brett Sheehan said Wednesday in response to FIU's firing Head Coach Mario Cristobal.
"You know what's crazy?" Sheehan responded, "Last night, I had an in-home visit with him, along with the Offensive Coordinator and the Running Back Coach, who recruits my area.
"He had no idea."
Sheehan, the senior quarterback at Collins Hill (GA), committed to Florida International in June.
"I was committed to him," Sheehan explained of his decommitment. "I want to talk to my high school coach about it to make it official, but I was committed to [Coach Cristobal]. With him being gone, I'm going to have to reopen everything up and see what happens."
Cristobal was released from FIU after a 3-9 season plagued by injuries, most notably at quarterback. Cristobal's firing comes as a surprise to many, as he led FIU to its first bowl game in 2010, followed by another bowl game appearance in 2011.
"The main reason I was going down there was the responsibility I had with the coaches," Sheehan said. "I spoke with them on a weekly basis. All three of them came up [to Collins Hill] a lot.
"At this point, I probably won't go to FIU no matter what."
"I really don't even know," Sheehan said. "[It could be] anyone, honestly."
