New interest for Lewis

2014 defensive back Daniel Lewis from New Iberia (LA) Senior High is hearing from a new program...Lewis has a Hawaii offer. Could he be closing in on another?

Daniel Lewis spoke with North Texas coach Justin Gaines this week.

"North Texas is going to review my highlight tape so they can decide on going ahead with an offer," said Lewis, who was offered by Hawaii several weeks ago.

Lewis played a pivotal role in New Iberia's run to the playoffs the past two years. The 5-foot-11 1/2, 185-pounder takes snaps at corner, running back and QB (wildcat).

He rushed for six touchdowns for head coach Rick Hutson's Yellow Jackets.

New Iberia (NISH) reached the second round of the Class 5A bracket. The Jackets defeated Scotlandville in the first round.

Lewis had a huge game in NISH's 43-7 victory over cross-town rival Westgate, picking off a pass (with a lengthy return), running for a score and moving the chains on a early fourth down carry.

"I'm not playing soccer this year so I can concentrate on powerlifting," Lewis said.

The junior is already academically-qualified.

North Texas has been busy in Louisiana with Coach Gaines successfully scouring the state for talent.

Gaines landed multiple "bayou prospects" in the 2012 class including RB/LB Mark Lewis (Livonia) and LB La'Jaylin Smith (St. Charles Catholic).
