Four Star Pledges to Mississippi State

Ohio native Corey Smith enrolled at East Mississippi junior college after a season playing closer to home. Smith's move south may prove to be a little more permanent than originally planned. After taking an official visit to Mississippi State this weekend, Smith plans to make the move from Scooba to Starkville.

"I had a great visit to Mississippi State," said Smith. "I committed and I am done now."

Smith reports that the visit to campus exceeded his expectations.

"I had been there before, but I learned a lot more this time," said Smith. "There's just so much I learned.

"I like all of the coaches, the campus, the players, the offense, the position I am going to be playing and all of the balls I am going to be catching.

"I am going to be playing the H like Chad Bumphis did. They want me there and Coach said they want to line me up outside some too.

"I am excited and I feel like it's a good spot for me."

While Smith found plenty to enjoy while on campus, some down time with the Mullens was a high point.

"I really liked being able to hang out with Coach Mullen and his family," said Smith. "That was nice and they made me feel at home."

A May graduate, Smith had official visits set next month, but he reports that he no longer intends to take them.

"I am done with all of that," explained Smith. "Now that I am committed to Mississippi State, I am not going to be taking any other visits.

"I'm done."

Smith chose Mississippi State over offers from Cincinnati, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and many others.
