Therefore, it was no coincidence all four were on ,campus for their official visit--really the last possible weekend they could do so, with finals coming up this week.
"I knew it was going to be a good visit, but (Pitt coaches) went above and beyond," Chapman said. "I've been here before, the food was good and all that good stuff. It was exciting to be in the dorm with the rest of the freshmen, knowing I'll be here soon.
"That was the first time I met Dorian, the first time I met Tyler," Chapman said. "You can tell with Tyler, that he's got an aura about him. When he walks in a room, people respect him. That's one of the first things my mom said. I think we could build a pretty good relationship."
Chapman will start classes on January 7. That's two days after Pitt plays in the BBVA Compass Bowl against Ole Miss. In fact, Chapman says the goal is to be all moved in to the dorm, by kickoff. He was originally going to room with just Orndoff, but he says all four early enrollees will likely room together.
As for the best part of the visit, its two-fold. Chapman had his favorite part. His dad had his own favorite part, which in a way, is all the more reassuring to TraVon in the decision he made.
"My host was Darryl Render, and he did a great job showing me around," Chapman said. "I got to meet Rushel Shell, too. The one thing that impressed me the most is that everybody is talking about how hard they're working; grinding. You really see it when you talk to a couple of these freshmen, because they're ready to work.
"My dad is a tough person to please, because he's real into this college football recruiting. He's very skeptical, but then he met Coach Engram, Coach Bollinger, Coach Haering, Coach Chryst and Coach Rudolph. I think they really surprised him with the type of people they are. They're just really comfortable."
Chapman said it was a little tough to expect how he would interact with some of the other visitors--many he was meeting for the first time. He said by the end of the visit, it was one giant bonding experience for everyone. Though he couldn't sense for sure where all of them stood with Pitt, he feels confident about one of them becoming a Panther.
"Some guys are quiet, some guys you just don't know how to get a feel for," Chapman said. "But then, next thing you know, you're all friends. I know Jaleel (Hytchye), JoJo (Kemp), Blake (McClain) and Alex (Officer) still need to make their decisions. They may schedule other official visits, or they may just go home and have a good feeling. They all seemed to like it, though.
"I think JoJo, with Rushel as his host, is pretty close. I as working on JoJo for awhile too. Then, at the basketball game, we saw him buy a Pitt hoodie, then Blake went out and bought a Pitt hoodie. I know they both had a good time on the visit, so we'll see what happens."
