Wilson lands local offer, sets 1st visit

Culver City (Calif.) wide out Julius Wilson picked up a big local offer last week and also set up his first official visit.

Julius Wilson doesn't get a lot of mention when talking about the top receivers in the west but he's a very talented player. He's a three-year starter and a dynamic play maker at receiver and out of the backfield. This past season, Wilson caught 43 balls for 700 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 214 yards and five more scores.

Wilson picked up earlier offers from California, Illinois, Nebraska, San Diego State, Utah State, Washington and Washington State but grade concerns caused many of those schools to back off Wilson during the season.

The receiver has made a lot of strides in the classroom and that piqued the interest of one of his early favorites.

"Coach Yarber from UCLA came to my basketball game last week and offered me a scholarship," Wilson said. "They showed a lot of interest early on, back in the spring, but then kind of backed off. I think they were waiting on my grades to improve and I've been doing really well this year and put a lot of extra work in.

"I have a good relationship with Coach Yarber and I'm very high on UCLA. I'm not ready to commit or anything but I'm giving it some thought. I like San Diego State a lot too and I plan to visit this weekend (Dec. 14). They have been on me hard for a long time and I like the coaches and the area is really nice. I'm setting a date with UCLA and that will be in January sometime."
