"It's not even all about Coach Stoops and Coach Gran leaving, I've just been talking to other schools. It's not a knock on FSU or anything – great program, great coaches, great tradition. I just think I can excel earlier at another university."
Baker and FSU's parting of ways became official after a phone call between Baker and Florida State Offensive Coordinator James Coley Sunday evening. While Baker and Florida State had been drifting further apart, some other schools had been entering the picture. He took an official visit to Clemson earlier this month and most recently visited Oklahoma.
"It went good, I had a great time up in Norman, got a chance to meet different people. Coach Stoops is a great guy, overall it was very impressive."
"Now it's going to be Clemson and Oklahoma, and I don't want to name a leader just yet."
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound cornerback says there is also a lot to like about Clemson.
"(It wasn't about) just how I can become a better football player there, but how I can become a better person, with the good group of guys they have there, and I can come in and contribute to a winning program."
Baker plans to discuss his recruitment with his family and says we should see a decision from him on Signing Day. Stay tuned to FOX Sports NEXT for the latest.
