Jenkins back on the market

Trey Jenkins had a good week at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, and he is expecting recruiting to follow suit. In search for bigger offers, the former UAB pledge is taking a step back.

"I have de-committed from UAB," Trey Jenkins informed Scout.com Wednesday afternoon.

The under-the-radar defensive back prospect out of Daphne (Ala.) High is coming off a strong showing at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic week, in which he got the chance to take on some of the South's best.

Already labeled a "soft" verbal commit, it wasn't anything against the Blazers, he says. And they are still in the mix for his service.

"Nope, we're gonna see in February," Jenkins added. "I'll still take UAB into consideration, but NIU (Northern Illinois) will be in the mix wherever I go."

The Huskies, who have offered the 6-foot, 185-pounder,are preparing to take on Florida State in the Orange Bowl January 1. Their surprise run has Jenkins interested, but he's waiting on bigger offers to come through in the meantime.

"I'm looking for my first SEC offer," he said. "It's my favorite conference."

Jenkins reports no SEC interest at this point, but hopes his strong showing in postseason play and now undeclared status helps him get on radar next month.
