O-D Bowl: Tavares Garner

FOX Sports NEXT is Scout.com is on the scene in Houston for the 2012 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. While there, we caught up with Manvel defensive back Tavares Garner, who talked about his commitment to Texas A&M.

Being with future teammates has been the highlight of the week for Manvel (TX) defensive back Tavares Garner

"It's been fun. Going against my guys from Texas A&M has been fun. There are a lot of us out here and we are ready to ball," Garner said.

There are six players on the O-D Bowl roster for this All-American game, four offensive and two defensive players. Getting to spend some extra time with these guys is available, according to Garner, but getting coached up by some of the nation's best coaches is also a plus.

"I haven't learned anything new, but there are some great coaches coaching us here. We are learning a lot of plays and we have to get it all before the game," Garner said.

While at practice, the 6-foot, 185-pound has been proving that he is one of the top players in the Midlands. In coverage during various drills, Garner has showed good feet and hips, and has been breaking on passes well.

That could be one of many reasons that the Aggie coaching staff wants to get him on campus for the class of 2013. And it's clear that feelings are mutual as far as interest is concerned.

"Texas A&M is awesome. Coach (Kevin) Sumlin and coach (Clarence) McKinney, they are amazing. Coach McKinney is the best recruiter in the nation to me," Garner said. "Really, I can't wait to get out there and ball. I will be playing corner. All I need to do is put more weight on me and I'll be ready.

"I want to get down there, ball out and start."

This past season, Garner finished with 42 tackles, five interceptions and a defensive touchdown.
