Semper Fi: West Recruiting Notebook

West team news and notes from the first day of Semper Fidelis Bowl practice...

*Long Beach Jordan (Calif.) wide out John Ross will announce his college choice at the Semper Fidelis game on Friday. Ross has taken official visits to Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and Washington and said even after he announces, he may still take a 5th visit. The Bruins and Huskies have been the two schools recruiting Ross the hardest.

*Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei tight end Thomas Duarte will announce his college choice at the Semper Fidelis game on Friday as well. His final five are Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington. Duarte hasn't taken any official visits but has been to UCLA and USC numerous times, camped with Washington last summer and visited Oregon when the Ducks hosted USC last year.

*Fresno (Calif.) Central defensive back L.J. Moore said he has a final three of Arizona State, Notre Dame and Oregon State. He'll take an official visit to ASU (Jan. 18) and said there's still a chance he may visit Oklahoma. Oregon State has been a long time leader and is recruiting Moore the hardest but ASU is coming on strong.

*Fresno (Calif.) Central defensive back Johnny Johnson will visit UCLA (Jan. 18). He has already visited Washington and said he's no longer considering Stanford. Johnson said he expects to announce his college choice when he returns from UCLA and the Bruins lead at this time.

*Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey safety Jayme Otomewo committed to Arizona State earlier this season and said he is very solid in his commitment to the Sun Devils. He will take his first trip to Tempe on January 11th for his official visit.

*Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne Paulo Lepua defensive lineman Paulo Lepua, who recently committed to Washington State, said he chose to become a Cougar because "it's a great school with great coaches. [He] fell in love with the school." Lepua will take his official visit to Pullman on January 18th.

*Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline linebacker Peyton Pelluer, a long time Washington State commit, said that even though former linebackers coach Jeff Choate has left for UTEP and has yet to be replaced, he's "confident they'll bring someone in just as good or even better." He recently had an in-home visit with the staff and will take an official visit to Pullman on January 18th.

*Orange (Calif.) Lutheran offensive lineman John Lopez is one of a few UCLA commits in the game and says he's strong with the Bruins. "We have a lot of talent," he said of the incoming offensive line class. "Coach Klemm is excited, we are excited. We can't wait to see how we build the offensive line." Lopez will take his official visit around January 12th.

*Seattle (Wash.) Prep defensive back Tere' Calloway has a top three of Southern Miss, SMU, and Nevada. Calloway, who is waiting to see what happens in regard to Nevada's coaching staff, said that though he's still figuring out his decision, he has plans to announce next week at the Boys and Girls Club in Seattle.
