McKinzy a Man on a Mission

Wyandotte (KS) junior Dimonic McKinzy is a dynamic athlete at the quarterback position. As one of the top-dual threats in the class of 2014, the Bulldogs QB is ready to represent The Sunflower State at this week's Semper Fi Combine. For more on the three-star prospect, Go Inside…

Quarterback Dimonic McKinzy is a man on a mission. And that mission began today.

The 2014 quarterback from Wyandotte (KS) High School in Kansas City boarded a plane on January 2nd, bound for the Semper Fi Proving Ground National Combine in Carson, CA. McKinzy knows of the perception of high school football in Kansas. He's working to change that.

"It really does make me want to prove there's talent here," McKinzy said. "I'm going to show them."

A three-star prospect ranked as the #17 quarterback in the class of 2014, McKinzy led the Bulldogs to their best season in six years. The 6-foot, 199-pound dual-threat threw 25 touchdown passes in 2012, adding another 6 TDs on the ground.

McKinzy already holds scholarship offers from Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota. With each program recruiting him as a quarterback first, the talented junior is eager to prove he can play at the collegiate level.

"I've been lifting and training with my coaches," he said of the time he's devoted to the Semper Fi combine since the end of the season. "Just mentally getting ready."

Knowing he'll face elite-level talent from around the country, McKinzy isn't fazed. "It really doesn't have an effect," he said confidently. "I'm still going to the quarterback I am and do my job, nothing extra."

"It's me versus me – just beat me. I learned that from my pops and my coach."

As he makes his way to the big stage, McKinzy knows what he wants from his trip to California.

"My goal is to get recognition so I can be an All-American quarterback next year and play in the bowl game."
