NC State has hit the home stretch of recruiting for the class of 2013. Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren and staff have been busy on the recruiting trail with several new names surfacing as major prospects for the Pack. Pack Pride breaks down 10 of the players State appears to have the best shot of landing. NC State is expected to take between 8-10 more commitments for the upcoming class.
Commitment Rating Guide:
90-100...State leads or has above average chance of commitment
80-89...State in top two or three, commitment chances are average
70-79...State in top five, some uncertainty on commitment chances
but will visit
60-69...State in the hunt but must overcome other schools
50-59...Uphill battle or we have lack of information
1. DB Malcolm Means...6-2, 190 pounds...Lewisville High
Notes...Very high on State and the fact they offered first
should pay dividends. UNC has since offered. Means could commit
during his visit to State.
2. DL Khairi Bailey...6-3, 240 pounds...Morgan Park High School,
Notes...scheduled to officially visit Jan 11 and it's very
possible he could commit. If he doesn't, Bailey plans to visit
Colorado State the following weekend. He's also considering Michigan State and Arizona State.
3. TE Troy Fumagalli...6-5, 225 pounds...Waubonsie Valley High
Notes...Fumagalli committed to Wisconsin as a walk-on with
the opportunity to earn a scholarship. NC State has offered so it's
hard to imagine he would turn down a full ride for a walk-on
position. Of course, there's always a chance Wisconsin could offer.
4. LB Devaris Brunson...6-0, 205 pounds...Lake City (SC) High
Notes...Grades have improved and State has ramped up their
interest. He will visit on Jan 25 and sources have indicated he
could flip from his East Carolina commitment. Current Wolfpack
commit Jerod Fernandez has been in his ear of late.
5. DB Sean Paul...6-0, 180 pounds...Vero Beach (FL)...McNutt...Potential Commitment Rating....91
Notes...Paul likes Wake Forest, Louisville and NC State but
we just have a feeling that the Pack could land him during his
official visit on Jan 11. If he doesn't then a potential trip to
Louisville could become tricky for State.
6. WR Marquez Valdes...6-3, 185 pounds...Lakewood High
School...St Petersburg (FL)...Jackson...Potential
Notes...Valdes is another player we feel the Pack could land
during his official visit on Jan 11. However, Valdes has tweeted
that his mother wants him at South Florida so that may be something
7. WR Jeff Badet...5-11, 160 pounds...Freedom High School,
Notes...Badet is a former USF commit that State has come on
strong for in recent weeks. He hasn't said it but we just have a gut
feeling that the Pack can land him on his Jan 25 visit. Wake Forest
and Kentucky are making huge pushes as well.
8. S Josh Jones...6-2, 202 pounds...Western High School, Walled
Lake (MI)...recruiter unknown...Potential
Notes...He is tentatively scheduled to visit next weekend but the fact he hasn't had an in-home visit with any of the State coaches yet makes us wonder. We'll leave him here for now since sources tell us that he could very well flip to State from his Illinois commitment but with the caveat that he could fall on this board.
9. DT Kenton Gibbs...Cass Technical High School...Detroit
Notes...Gibbs originally committed to Illinois and he likes
them but Pittsburgh and NC State have come on strong. We think State
is the sleeper here. Gibbs will visit State on Jan 18.
10. DE Jaylen Miller...6-3, 265 pounds...Gaffney (SC) High
Notes...A recent offer from Tennessee could muddy the waters
for NC State but we worry if the Pack's late visit date of Feb 2nd
may hurt. The question may be whether he's still available by the
time his visit roles around. Wake Forest, Maryland and Georgia Tech
are also in line for official visits.
QB Asiantii Woulard...Winter Park (FL) High School ...Potential
Commitment Rating....85...has already visited State,
considering NCS, UK, USF and FLA
DE Reggie Meant...Ida Baker High School...Cape Coral (FL)...Potential
Commitment Rating....85...favors Iowa ST but will visit State
on Jan 25. He could potentially move way up this list
WR Johnathan Alston...Bunn (NC) High School ...Potential
Commitment Rating....85...State is still recruiting but grades
have become a concern. He could be a sign and place.
DT Kingsley Opara...Mandarin High School....Jacksonville (FL)...Potential
Commitment Rating....83...Maryland commit that could visit on
Jan 11. May be tough to pull him away but he has expressed concerns
about playing in the Big 10.
DT Deadrin Senat...Immokalee (FL) High School ...Potential
Commitment Rating....80...State is a late entry for the former
FSU commit. FSU, NCS and SCAR are the primary teams but that could
DE Demetrius Cooper...Julian High School...Chicago (ILL)...Potential
Commitment Rating....75...He is a Michigan State commitment and we thought he was going to visit next weekend but family obligations prevented that. He says he will still try to reschedule but overcoming MSU may be tough.
OL Malik Thompson...Edgewater...Orlando (FL)...Potential
Commitment Rating....70...we're still trying to run down info on Thompson, but he will reportedly take an official visit to NC State on January 25th.
DE Davin Bellamy...Chamblee (GA) High School ...Potential
Commitment Rating....58...softened on FSU commitment after
several Noles coaches departed. State has been on him heavy but they are
in a battle with several heavy hitters. He is probably a long shot.
DB Dravious Wright...Vero Beach (FL)...Potential Commitment
Rating....55...teammates with Sean Paul, but we don't have
enough information on him right now.
DL Ruben Dunbar...Glenbard West...Glen Ellyn (ILL)...Potential
Commitment Rating....50...possible NC State visit but lack of
