News and Notes from Out West

Following a few weeks of inactivity on the official visit front, this coming weekend is pretty big for a lot of schools. Here are a few recent rumblings that we've heard about in the last few days.

The big news out West was the de-commitment from USC by Redlands East Valley (Calif.) defensive end Kylie Fitts. Fitts was planning to enroll early at USC but was told Monday night that he would need to enroll in the fall and there was no longer an early enrollee spot.

Fitts decided to de-commit a day later and open up the process. USC is still in the mix and Fitts and told Annabell Stephan Wednesday night that Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon and UCLA are all in there with the Trojans as well.

If Fitts wants to still enroll early, UCLA and Washington are both on the quarter system and could take him early. If Fitts decides to wait things out and enroll in the fall, look for him to take his remaining three official visits before making his decision. Right now, it's a toss up as to where Fitts could wind up.

Other rumblings out West:

*Concord (Calif.) De La Salle athlete Austin Hooper will take an official visit to Stanford this weekend. Hooper has already visited Washington and is still hoping to check out Oregon and Cal as well. The Cardinal are recruiting Hooper to play tight end.

*Fellow Spartan Michael Hutchings, a long time USC commit, was planning to visit Washington this weekend but has decided to cancel and will not take any other trips other than to USC (Jan. 18).

*Staying with the De La Salle theme, linebacker D.J. Moffitt continues to be one of the most under-recruited players in the west. The athlete has yet to schedule any of his official visits and is talking mainly with Nevada and UNLV right now. Someone will get an absolute steal.

*Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian and UCLA linebacker commit Cameron Judge will officially visit Oregon State this weekend and Arizona State (Jan. 25). Judge has been a long time commit to the Bruins but said he hasn't been hearing as much from UCLA as the other two programs.

*Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) defensive back Tahaan Goodman has locked in an official visit to Oklahoma for this weekend and LSU next week (Jan. 18). Texas A&M and USC are also being mentioned as well and the safety may wait until Signing Day before he makes his announcement.

*Missouri City (Texas) Marshall linebacker and UCLA commit Deon Hollins will now visit Utah this weekend after it appeared early on he would not make the trip. Notre Dame is another option down the road but Hollins looks very solid with the Bruins right now.

*El Cerrito (Calif.) defensive back Marcellus Pippins has been committed to Utah in October but will take one more visit before shutting things down. The corner has a visit set to Washington State (Jan 18) and said he'll have a final decision following that visit.

*Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou linebacker Isaac Savaiinaea told Brandon Huffman that he'll wait until Signing Day before he makes his decision. The PIAA has a yearly luncheon every Signing Day where many of the Islands top football players sign their letters of intent. Texas A&M and UCLA remain the final two schools for the linebacker.

*Atwater (Calif.) Buhach Colony offensive lineman Aaron Cochran will take his final official visit to California next weekend (Jan. 18). Cochran has already officially visited Arizona, Nebraska and Oklahoma and will likely make his decision shortly after he returns from Berkeley.

*Cerritos (Calif.) Gahr defensive back Patrick Enewally may take a visit to Cal this weekend and will take his final visit to UCLA next week (Jan. 18). Enewally has already visited Boise State and Washington and the feeling is the Huskies are a solid leader right now.

*Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany wide out Devin Ross is still committed to Colorado and will visit Boulder next week (Jan. 18). Ross also set up a visit to Cal for the following weekend (Jan. 25).

Junior Offers:

A few new junior offers have gone out in the last week. Gardena (Calif.) Serra linebacker Dwight Williams was offered by Washington and Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian linebackers Marquis Ware and Jamardre Cobb were both offered by South Carolina.
