Christy Eager to Take Visit

Dutchtown wide receiver Shelby Christy closed out his college recruitment several months ago. With his high school football career now behind him, Christy is now preparing to chase his state title hopes during the track and field events of the spring. Before that title chase begins in earnest, the talented wideout will get a glimpse of what college life will be like during his time in Starkville.

"I have been working out real hard getting ready for track," said Christy. "We have been doing a lot of conditioning to get ready.

"We haven't been able to do a whole lot with the weather, but we're getting ready.

"I feel like we should have a good team this year."

The turn of the calendar not only opens the pre-season to the spring sports, but it begins the final contact period of the college football recruiting process.

Several college coaches have been through Dutchtown High looking for prospects to complete their signing classes.

"ULM and Southern Miss have been by recently," said Christy. "Southern Miss and UL (Louisiana) both want me to take a visit, but I am not going to do any more of that.

"The only visit I am planning to take is my visit to Mississippi State next weekend."

Christy will be one of several prospects on campus at Mississippi State next weekend.

"I am looking forward to getting up there and seeing the new facility (Seal Complex)," said Christy. "I have heard all about it and I am ready to see it myself.

"I have been talking with Coach (Tim) Brewster a lot and I like him.

"We've just been talking about football and getting ready for next season.

"We've talked a lot about routes and what all I need to do to get ready."

The three star wideout reports that he has been impressed by the signing class Coach Dan Mullen and his staff are putting together.

"I keep up with recruiting," said Christy. "We are putting together a great class.

"I think we're going to have one of the top receiver classes in the country.

"I really like the two JuCos we have coming in.

"Corey Smith looks like a real slippery guy and I like Jeremey Chappelle a lot too.

"I am looking forward to playing with them."
