Whitfield Checks Out Michigan State

Marcus Whitfield is one of Ohio's top 2014 prospects, and the Massillon wide receiver is starting to draw college recruiting interest. Whitfield took an unofficial visit to Michigan State last weekend to check out the Spartan program.

Massillon safety/wide receiver Marcus Whitfield is one of Ohio's top 2014 prospects, and he could project to either side of the football at the next level.

Whitfield, 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, currently holds offers from Toledo and Bowling Green, and several BCS schools are showing interest. Last weekend, Whitfield visited Michigan State.

"The trip to Michigan State was great and I really liked it," Whitfield stated. "I hung out with a few of the other recruits, and took a tour of the campus. I'm being recruited by Coach (Pat) Narduzzi and we spent the entire day together."

"Michigan State told me this will be a slow process, and they're going to take their time with giving out offers," he added. "Coach (Mark) Dantonio said he will be checking me out closer this spring. They are recruiting me as an athlete, and they haven't said what side of the ball they see me playing."

"I'm very comfortable at Michigan State, and I love the campus," he continued. "We agreed to stay in contact, and I will be back there for spring football. Michigan State is up there pretty high on my list of schools."

The Spartans are not the only school showing interest in Whitfield, but he has not scheduled any upcoming visits yet.

"I'm hearing from Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Penn State and West Virginia," Whitfield noted.
