Lee still looking for the right opportunity

Last season, Mesa QB Jaymason Lee (6-2, 215) had the starting spot all sewn up, but after suffering a shoulder injury during fall camp, he split time at quarterback with a freshman. Now, the sophomore signal-caller is still looking for a home and has a few options that he's looking at...

Lee enjoyed a solid prep career at Castle (Kaneohe, Hi.) High School and was all set to sign with Portland State, but when the coach recruiting him left, so did his opportunity with the Vikings.

"After that, I wound up going to San Jose City college, but it wasn't the right fit there, so I came here to Mesa," Lee told JCFootball.com. "I was all set to be the starter, but then in a practice, they made the quarterbacks live and I took a hit and broke the scapula in my left shoulder, so I missed the first three or four games."

After returning to the field, Lee split time with freshman Blake Kemp and put up decent stats, but nothing that would get him noticed -- 1,213 yards passing with seven touchdowns and four interceptions.

At his size and with his athleticism, Lee can be a dual-threat quarterback, but he said he prefers to sit back in the pocket to make plays.

"I'd say I'm definitely a guy who likes to sit back and make plays with my arm," Lee said. "I can get out and run though. I actually think I throw pretty well on the run, so that's an option for me."

On the recruiting front, Lee has some smaller schools looking his way, but he hopes to find an opportunity at a bigger school.

"I have offers from some smaller schools, NAIA and D-2s," Lee said. "Alabama A&M, Oklahoma-Panhandle, South Oklahoma State, Southwestern Oklahoma and a couple of other schools have offered me, but I think I can play at a higher level.

"I'm sorta just keeping an open mind and I'll decide where I want to go later on. I'd like to take some visits first."

Lee is a good student and will finish up his two-year degree in May. He will have three year to play two starting this fall.
