Ohio Linebacker Drawing Interest

One of Ohio's top 2014 prospects impressed recently at the Under Armour Junior Combine in St. Petersburg, Florida. Springfield linebacker Davonte James is a player to watch going forward.

Springfield (OH) linebacker Davonte James is one of the top linebacker prospects in a stacked 2014 class at the position in Ohio.

James, 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, was impressive two weeks ago at the Under Armour Junior Combine in St. Petersburg, Florida.

"It was great being at Under Armour to do my best, and also compete against the best," James stated. "My strength on the field is my ability to come downhill and make plays. I'm a very intelligent player, and I pride myself on making the right reads."

"I'm working on attacking more and being a lot more aggressive out on the field," he added.

College recruiters have taken notice, and James currently holds two offers to his credit.

"I have two offers right now, from Purdue and Cincinnati," he explained. "I need to get to know more about Purdue, but I haven't really studied up on them much at all yet, but I will be doing that."

"Cincinnati is a school I've been to before, and my aunt is a graduate of the school," James said. "It's close to home and I think a lot of the program. With both schools having gone through coaching changes, I need to learn about both schools going forward."

Several other top programs are showing interest in James, and he is keeping his options open.

"I'm hearing from other schools, but Penn State, Wisconsin and West Virginia would be the ones I've heard from the most," he stressed. "I've gotten invited to a lot of different college camps, but I haven't put a schedule together yet."

"I would love to have an offer from Notre Dame, and that would be my dream school," he continued. "I've been there on a visit and just loved everything about the school. I've spoken to Coach (Mike) Elston and they have my film, so I'm waiting to hear back from them."
