Last weekend, Gonzalez was at San Jose State, where he was offered following the trip.
This weekend, Berkeley was his destination, and while Gonzalez didn't get an offer, he got some clarity where he stands.
"They told me that they're trying to fill some needs, and they should know by the end of this week if they will have an offer available and if they do, they will offer me," said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said the trip to Berkeley, though, was a great experience.
"I had a really good time there, and it was a great time and experience at Cal," said Gonzalez. "It was awesome on campus and everything I expected it to be."
Gonzalez said he enjoyed spending time with the other recruits on their visits and bonded well with them.
He also was able to meet with the Cal coaches.
"I talked with Coach (Barry) Sacks and Coach (Andy) Buh and then got to meet with Coach (Sonny) Dykes," said Gonzalez. "Coach Dykes is a good person and the kind of coach I'd enjoy playing for."
Gonzalez said that the Cal coaches like him on the defensive side of the ball.
"They like me as a defensive end or maybe growing into a defensive tackle," said Gonzalez. "I want to play defense too in college."
But he's hopeful Cal will offer.
"It would be great to go to Cal and I'd like them to offer," said Gonzalez. "Academics are really important to me, and while I love football, a degree means more and will help me get a job I love."
