Jansen Recaps Official Visit

Longtime Indiana pledge Evan Jansen recaps his recent official visit with the Hoosiers and looks back on the recruiting process.

The past year was one of great growth for Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller tight end Evan Jansen as he went from backup to starter in helping Moeller win a state championship and showing the skills needed to play at the next level.

After serving as a back-up during his junior season, Jansen saw a solid performance during the NIKE SPARQ combine jump start his recruiting.

"The NIKE SPARQ kind of got things started as my junior year I was a backup," explained Jansen. "I didn't have any offers and the biggest thing was getting coaches to come and see me workout as I didn't have enough tape. I then went to the NIKE Training Camp and things started to pick up with some offers.

Having issued his pledge to Indiana in July, Jansen was excited to get over to Bloomington for an extended stay during his official visit.

"My official visit was wonderful," said Jansen. "My host was quarterback Nate Sudfeld who got significant time this past season. I've been over to Indiana several times so as far as viewing the facilities it wasn't like most kids who have to fly in.

"But I had a great time being around everybody and had a good time. It was real neat spending some time with the other guys who are committed as I hadn't really met a lot of them. I had played against one of them (Anthony Young) and spent a lot of time with another who is from Ohio (Patrick Dougherty) while also talking with one from Cincinnati (Marcus Oliver) a little bit. So I really only talked with two of them but it was a good start to building relationships with players who are already there."

One thing Jansen learned quickly was the players the Hoosiers have for him early.

"The very last thing I did was sit down with Coach (Kevin) Wilson," said Jansen. "It was a good meeting and he made sure I knew the things I do the next couple of months before I'm on campus for summer sessions will be huge as they are anticipating me to come in early and play.

"So he was making sure I was aware I could make an impact right way and that I get myself as ready as possible before I get in their hands."
