Quinton Powell looking around

Quinton Powell had narrowed his list to Florida and USC, but now Florida is no longer an option. The 2013 linebacker now wants to take a quick look at a few more of his options before Signing Day.

Quinton Powell had planned on deciding between Florida and USC by Monday night before announcing his final decision on Signing Day, but now the Gators are out of the picture.

"They just called me and just said they didn't have a spot for me. At the end of the day, they have to do what's good for the organization and I respect that. I just misunderstood because they came to my house and we talked and I thought I had until Monday. It was just a shock. They're doing their jobs and I'm okay with that," he said.

Even with such a short time before Signing Day, Powell insists he wants to explore his options. The Mainland (Daytona Beach, FL) standout said South Carolina, Miami, and Oregon are now back in the picture in addition to USC.

"I was down to Florida and USC, so of course USC has an advantage now somewhat. Now, once I look into other schools like South Carolina with an open mind, I might actually like them more and something could happen. It's still up in the air, but USC does have an advantage," he said.

Of the schools he mentioned, Southern Cal is the only one he's taken an official visit to. Powell did attend camp at South Carolina and said the Gamecocks have "always been there," so people shouldn't rule them out. From here, Powell plans to contact coaches of those programs and get a better feel.

"I have to see if they fit me. Miami, their defense actually fits me. I'm going off stuff like that – do I fit in their game plan on defense? That's the only thing because I can't tell about the environment or anything," he said.

Powell said there is no chance he delays his announcement and while most feel he will end up at USC, he insists his mind is not made up. Stay tuned to FOX Sports NEXT for the latest.
