Third Time's a Charm

Phoenix (Az.) Thunderbird RB Kani Benoit gets offer from Pac 12 power and promptly commits

Phoenix (Ariz.) Thunderbird RB Kani Benoit has had a crazy experience with his recruitment.

First, he committed to Colorado State at halftime of the Canyon Coast All Star game on Martin Luther King Day, only to find out that the Rams no longer had a spot for him because another back committed the previous day.

Benoit then committed to UNLV the very next day to ensure he still had a school to go to.

Benoit says, "It was a blessing that all of this happened."

Thursday night Oregon, who had stayed in contact the entire time, booked a flight for Benoit (6-0 200) to take his third official visit. Benoit went to Eugene with no offer and came home without one as well...that changed late Sunday night.

Benoit says, "They called and offered me a scholarship and I committed on the spot."

And Benoit couldn't be happier with his choice, "Everything on the visit went great. Oregon has everything I want in a football program and academically. The coaches at Oregon are good quality guys and are excellent in everything they do."

Benoit also had offers from Colorado State, UNLV, Utah State, Toledo, Idaho, New Mexico State, North Dakota, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.

He helped Thunderbird to an 8-4 record after rushing for 2,260 yards and 36 scores.
