Army All-American Deon Mix To Auburn

U.S. Army Army All-American lineman Deon Mix has signed with the Auburn Tigers according to South Panola Coach Lance Pogue.

Batesville, Miss.--After signing seven offensive linemen last season those spots weren't a priority position for the 2013 Auburn class, but the Tigers have signed a high school player for the OL with 6-4, 320 U.S. Army All-American Deon Mix choosing the Tigers.

"Deon told me that he and his mom faxed his paperwork in to Auburn just after 7 a.m. this morning," South Panola Coach Lance Pogue told Inside the Auburn Tigers. "Like all the big schools look for, they are looking for big, athletic offensive linemen. He had been committed to Mississippi State and then one of the coaches went to Auburn (Melvin Smith) that he had a relationship with.

"Sometimes in this business those kinds of relationships make a difference. Auburn got in on him at the end and he went over for a visit last weekend, he and his mom. They said they really liked it and it was the place they really wanted to be."

The South Panola High product had previously committed to Mississippi State, but decided to take a visit to Auburn last week and put on Auburn on his list of favorites along with the MSU?Bulldogs, Ole Miss and Georgia.

Commenting on Auburn, he said he really liked Coach Gus Malzahn and his staff. He added, "I liked the family environment--the people there and the environment. It is just an awesome city."

A three-year standout on the offensive line at South Panola at offensive tackle, he projects as a guard at the college level.

In addition to playing in the U.S. Army All-American Game, he played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and his coach notes the Tigers are getting a special player in Mix.

"He can play all the positions," Pogue said. "He has played center, guard, and tackle for us. I wouldn't be shocked if he wound up as a center. He played that in the Army All-American Game. He has a lot of versatility. He's 6-6 and an athletic guy and there is no doubt his best football is ahead of him."
