Powell chooses Trojans

Quinton Powell spent much of the last year committed to the Florida Gators, but it's the Trojans who will sign the 2013 linebacker. Powell decommitted from Florida in December and took an official visit to USC mid-January where he found his new home.

Quinton Powell will play college football at USC. It's about as far away from his Florida home as can be, but he's excited to find a new home in California.

"It felt like home, the environment fits me and the players at Southern Cal are really like brothers to me. They just welcomed me in like family," he said.

The Mainland (Daytona Beach, FL) standout will rejoin his former teammate and best friend, USC defensive end Leonard Williams. Powell see's a perfect fit for him in the Trojans' defense.

"Their defense fits me extremely well. They plan on rushing me off the edges, that is my specialty so I feel really comfortable with that," he said.

It's been a bit of a crazy recruitment for the 6-foot-2, 190-pound linebacker. He was committed to Florida for much of the year, decided to open things back up and looked into Southern Cal, South Carolina, Miami, and Oregon. Now, he's glad it's over and he's happy with his choice.

"It was hectic, but at the end of the day it was all worth it. And I'm so happy it's over! It doesn't even make sense. I'll get to be a normal kid again," he laughed.

Powell is excited to bring his skills out West and he knows he'll be able to contribute a lot to the USC program.

"They are going to get a guy that loves to work hard and will do whatever it takes to help the team out."
