On Tuesday before National Signing Day, 2013 DE Brian Whitaker made his commitment to West Georgia.

"[I made my decision] because of the vibe I got when I went to check out the college," Whitaker explained, "and the chance to develop my skills at the next level."

At 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, Whitaker will make the move to West Georgia after finishing his senior spring at Westside High School (GA).

"I signed as early as I could on National Signing Day," Whitaker said. "I signed around 7:15 in the morning."

Hours later, Whitaker and his teammates held a signing day ceremony at Westside High School.

"At 2 PM, we had a signing thing at the school," Whitaker said. "It was good. I had my boys with me, so it was cool. It felt good."

Whitaker's decision came after an official visit to West Georgia during the February 2nd weekend. While on campus, Whitaker was able to tour the football facilities and stay in the dorms.

"The coaching staff has been very supportive," Whitaker said of his decision. "Everything I've needed, they've helped me through. It's gone so smoothly."

What type of player does Whitaker plan to become at West Georgia?

"An emphatic playmaker," he answered. The defensive end will compete for playing time starting this fall.
