Five offers total now for the 5-foot-11, 202 pound cornerback out of Summerville, S.C. who picked off five passes as a junior.
One school that has yet to offer joins two others that have in his early top three.
"Florida is a school I really like, but they have not offered me yet. I started liking them when Chris Leak played for them and I have liked them ever since. They are one of my favorites with Clemson and South Carolina as the other two."
The Tigers and Gamecocks are in-state schools and he likes a lot about each school.
"South Carolina was first to offer, so I like that, but I like a lot more about them too. I like their coaches, I like how I feel when I am there, and I feel like their school fits me.
"I really like the coaching staff at Clemson. They are good guys, I like how they do things, and that stands out to me a lot there. I also like where their football program and what they have done recently."
A school that Clemson battles in the ACC will likely get Smalls on their campus before the Tigers do in the near future.
Smalls is set to visit Florida State on February 23, then trip to Clemson in March.
He is going to continue to work to improve this game around those visits as well. A.J. Green is a star to come out of Summerville, but it is not Green who Smalls is working to be like on the field.
"My idol is Patrick Peterson to be honest," said Smalls with a laugh. "I love A.J. Green and I have watched him every time I could, but I look at Peterson and try to learn from him.
"I am a very physical cornerback, I have the speed to catch up to receivers, and I love playing on that island out there like Peterson. I know I have room to improve and that is what I am trying to do this off-season."
