Paducah Tilghman standout set for Junior Day

Paducah Tilghman defensive back Darrius Spivey-Nunn will be among the class of 2014 prospects attending Louisville's upcoming Junior Day. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the All-State performer.

Last June while attending camp at the University of Louisville, Paducah Tilghman defensive back Darrius Spivey-Nunn turned in a performance that earned him the event's top defensive back.

The Cardinals coaching staff noticed and became the first program to begin recruiting the 6-foot-1, 165-pound junior. Since then, others have noted his impressive play and have expressed an interest.

"The schools that I know that have shown an interest in me so far are Louisville, UK, Mississippi State, Missouri and WKU," said Spivey-Nunn on Wednesday.

"I just took a visit to Kentucky last weekend and I have a visit scheduled for Louisville on the 23rd."

"I was impressed," he said of his time in Lexington." I like what that have planned out for the next season and I like Coach Stoops. I like how I would fit in with their defense."

In addition to last years camp, Spivey-Nunn attended three Louisville home games last season, making his upcoming junior day visit his fifth with the Cardinals program.

"I like the atmosphere there and the coaches. I like how everybody there is really down to earth."

With the recruiting process just getting under way, Spivey-Nunn isn't picking favorites and is instead focused on earning the opportunity.

"Right now I'm wide open," he said. "I'm just hoping that I can earn a scholarship."

Likely a safety on the college level, Spivey-Nunn totaled 80 tackles, 3 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 9 pass breakups as a junior, earning multiple All-State honors.

He was invited and will attend the NIKE Football Training Camp in Memphis on April 13.

Paducah Tilghman linebacker Derik Overstreet will also attend Louisville's Junior Day.
