Hendren Goes In-Depth on Rutgers Offer

Dexter High (Brookline, Mass.) offensive lineman James Hendren received his first BCS scholarship offer today in the form of Rutgers. Hendren spoke with ScarletReport.com to go in-depth on the offer and discuss the latest in his recruitment.

Dexter High (Brookline, Mass.) offensive lineman James Hendren had his day made when his head coach pulled him out of study hall with some big news. Hendren, a 6-foot-6 2014 lineman received a verbal scholarship offer from Rutgers.

Rutgers is the first BCS school to offer Hendren, who said he is excited about the schools upcoming transition to the Big Ten.

"Being recruited to be a Big Ten offensive lineman, that's something that has a pretty tough, bruising, hardcore connotation," Hendren said. "When you think of a Big Ten offensive lineman and kind of thinking that I could be one of them is sinking in.

Hendren has never been to the Rutgers campus, but said he now has an April visit planned to tour the campus.

"It's my first FBS offer, which is huge," Hendren said. "They're going to the Big Ten. They've got a really great program. I know their facilities are great. The connections to New York City are big, so getting one from Rutgers is pretty cool."

Offensive line coach Damian Wroblewski is his recruiter and the two are building a strong relationship.

"I've got a pretty solid relationship with coach Wrobo," Hendren said. "He's one of my favorite guys in the recruiting process and he's told me a lot about what I can expect at Rutgers. He's pretty straight forward, but he's also a nice, cool guy."

Hendren projects as a tackle in college. He is also a standout basketball player for Dexter, which prevented him from taking visits to any junior days.

"Obviously I'm a big guy, but I'm more than that because I work with it and use my size as best I can," Hendren said. "At offensive tackle, sometimes you're blocking defensive tackles and sometimes its ends and linebackers. If you're a good one, you have to have ability to do both. I can maul the big guys inside or use my speed against faster guys on the edge."

Hendren has a "Tobacco Road" spring break planned with unofficial visits to Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Virginia

Hendren has a verbal offer from Holy Cross and multiple Ivy League opportunities. Boston College, Penn State, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame are also expressing interest, he said.
