Toledo Central Catholic (OH) has had its share of college coaches stop by to see star DeShone Kizer. The quarterback with double digit offers has spent the last two season throwing to someone coaches have also had their eye on, junior Derich Weiland.
"I've led the team the last two years in receptions. DeShone and I have a great connection."
Weiland has now joined Kizer on the recruiting map and recently picked up his first offer.
"Kent State offered me as a slot receiver as well as punt and kick returns. The offer was kind of a surprise. I want to go up there for a Junior Day in March. It's still early, but I'm very interested in them. I really like the way Coach Haynes approaches things and what he's about. Being the first school to offer me definitely stands out."
The receiver is also on the radar of several schools across the country.
"I'm also hearing from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), Pittsburgh, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Northwestern and Penn State."
When it comes to his style of play, Weiland is known for his speed.
"I like to get the ball in my hands. If you can just get the ball in my hand, my speed can do the rest."
Stay with FOX Sports NEXT for the latest on Weiland and the rest of the Class of 2014.
