At 6-3, 185 pounds, Jacksonville (NC) Northside standout Josh Cabrera is one of the bigger wide receiver prospects in the state for the class of 2014. As a junior he tallied 600 receiving yards to go along with 13 touchdowns and that, along with his physical potential has helped Cabrera land early scholarship offers from Virginia Tech and Duke in addition to recruiting interest from UNC and Georgia Tech.
NC State is another school that has expressed early interest and the Wolfpack was able to host Cabrera at their junior day held this past weekend.
So how did the visit go?
"It was nice," said Cabrera. "We also went to the Tom Lemming photo shoot so it was all real nice. We went to some position group meetings and met with the receivers and coaches. They showed us some stuff and walked around the facilities and then went to the basketball game."
This was Cabrera's first opportunity to meet the new Wolfpack staff and he said they let him know that they want to see more of him as the year unfolds.
"The new staff, they're real energetic. Coach Kitchings is the coach that is recruiting me for them. They haven't offered me but they want to see some more of me first."
With two offers under his belt, Cabrera said he feels at least one other ACC school appears close to extending an offer.
"I'm going to UNC next week. They seem like they may be close to offering me."
As a junior, Cabrera was named all-conference and all-county.
