Mama calls it 'Productive day' at USC

USC held its Junior Day on Sunday, welcoming some of the top recruits from the class of 2014 to campus. Bellflower (Calif.) Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama made the short trip up the 110 to spend the day at Troy.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Damien Mama grew up loving the USC football team. How could he not?

The Bellflower (Calif.) Bosco offensive lineman attends high school just twenty minutes away from the national powerhouse program and the famed L.A. Coliseum the Trojans play in.

"It's been my favorite team since I was little," Mama said Sunday evening on the telephone. The 2014 three-star recruit spent the day on the USC campus for the Trojans' Junior Day.

"It was a good experience just going to ‘SC," he said. Among the highlights for Mama was spending most of the day inside the new John McKay Center -- USC's new 110,000-square foot, $70 million athletic facility.

"I liked the weight room," he explained. "It was really nice." And no doubt, if he is to become a Trojan, a place the 6-foot-5 340-pound lineman will be spending a good amount of his time.

With dreams of one day playing in the NFL, Mama is also taken with the Trojans' pro-style offense. "That is a big thing I like," he said. "That will help you with the next step."

Mama is still waiting to receive a scholarship offer from the Trojans, but after spending the day meeting with new offensive line coach Mike Summers and offensive line assistant James Cregg, he's confident it might only be a matter of time.

"They just told me to keep doing what I am doing," Mama explained. "They are recruiting me hard and I can potentially expect an offer soon."

A teammate of USC 2013 signee Nico Falah, Mama currently holds 13 offers from Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, California, Colorado, Florida State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Mississippi, Oregon State, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
