Joe Brown played effectively on both sides of the ball for Butler last season. On offense he rushed for 578 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 305 yards and two more touchdowns. On defense, as a corner, he picked off three passes.
His athleticism and general playmaking ability put him on the radar with several schools. One of those schools decided to make a move on the 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior.
"Western Kentucky offered Friday," said Brown.
He's still learning about the Hilltoppers and the new staff at Western Kentucky.
"I don't know much about the new coach, but I would feel really comfortable playing for coach Cassity. I spoke with coach Brohm also. He seems like a great guy. I was really excited and shocked because I wasn't even aware they were interested in me prior to that day," Brown continued.
The Hilltoppers are recruiting Brown as a general athlete at this point. And they join some of the programs that were recruiting him since last fall like Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville and Ohio State. But another school may be interested in offering as well.
"Kentucky is showing the most interest and will most likely be the next to offer," Brown said.
Brown is pretty high on the Wildcat staff at this point too.
"I really like the new staff and their plans offensively. Coach Scott, the running back coach, told me how I could contribute to the offense and where I stood on the depth chart," Brown said. "I really got a good connection with the defensive backs coach, coach Ansley right off the bat," he finished.
