First Two Offers for Roberts

Rice Lake (Wisc.) junior linebacker Austin Roberts picked up his first two offers back to back on Monday.

Austin Roberts landed his first two scholarship offers for football on Monday, completing an exciting couple of athletic days for him.

"It was great," the 6'3, 220-lb linebacker said. "I was supposed to call them, but I was actually holding off, but I had the state wrestling tourney this weekend. I place third, so that was huge. I'm still excited about that, but my coach wanted me to call Coach Berry at Central Michigan and he said he wanted me to talk to the head coach, so I wasn't sure what that meant. I called up and he offered me. I can't even describe it. It was awesome. It's a great feeling."

Shortly after the Chippewas offered, North Dakota came right behind it with an offer, a validation of Roberts' production the last two years (262 tackles as a sophomore and junior).

Visiting both of the offering schools along with a few others is on the docket for Roberts now that wrestling is finished.

"I got invited to a bunch of junior days, but I had to wrestle, so I haven't been to any yet. I haven't been to CMU, but I'm planning to go on the 16th of March to their junior day. It's about a ten hour trip, but I'm going down there for that. Northern Illinois is Friday and North Dakota is in April some time."

Also a great student, several top academic institutions are recruiting Roberts as well.

"Minnesota, South Dakota State and Yale all invited me to their junior days. A bunch of other schools are contacting me like North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Yale, Harvard, a lot of Ivy League schools, Penn, Drake and Iowa State have all been in contact with me."

One school Roberts has heard some from, but hopes to hear more from are the Wisconsin Badgers.

"I've been getting mail. It's all pretty general, but last week, they called to the office and were asking for my transcript. I signed off to send the transcript to them. I'm going to try to call them and see if we can get that going. I'd like to see more interest from them."
