Davonte James Talks Kentucky & Purdue

Two programs showing high interest in Springfield (Ohio) linebacker Davonte James have caught his interest. We get the latest from James following his visit to Kentucky.

This past weekend Springfield (Ohio) linebacker Davonte James made the trip to Kentucky to check out the Wildcats program under new head coach Mark Stoops.

How was the trip to Big Blue Country?

"The trip was good," said James. "It was fun as they showed us around the facilities and talked to us about academics and how they support their student athletes. They also talked about who they are going to change the program and make it better.

James used the trip to learn more about the Wildcats program and how they would use him if they offered him a scholarship.

"I talked with defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot who is also the linebackers coach," said James. "I asked him where they would play me in their defense and he said they see me as a mike linebacker in their base 4-3.

"He also showed me how they changed the defense at Florida State when they got there and turned them around. I was definitely impressed by what they are doing.

The Wildcats were up front with James about the reasons they wanted him to visit campus.

"They are talking about offering me," explained James. "They wanted to get me down on campus so they could meet me in person and get to know me and see what type of person I am."

James holds three early offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and Purdue and was hoping to visit the Boilermakers this past weekend as well.

"I was going to visit Purdue but was unable to make the trip," said James. "So I plan on going up there for a spring practice."

Both programs have caught his eye with new excitement around both programs and James will be watching. "I'm looking forward to seeing how both programs do with their new coaches this season," said James.

FOXSportsNEXT.com will be following James throughout the recruiting process as more programs are sure to show interest.
