Midlands 2014: Top Five OGs

With a rankings updates scheduled throughout the week Scout.com takes a look at the top five rated offensive guards in the Midlands region...

1. Demetrius Knox

The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder from Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints High is a big, and powerful lineman with a high upside. He is massive, but moves extremely well and is very quick. He racked up national offers, but has made an early commitment to Texas.

2. D.J. Foster

The 6-foot-3, 314-pounder from Lincoln (Neb.) Southwest High is a lot of fun to watch in film. He plays with a pounding style and when he squares his shoulders he demolishes defenders to open up lanes. Holds offers from schools like Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, Iowa and others.

3. Blake Blackmar

The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder from Clear Lake (Texas) High is one of the more versatile linemen on the list. Could play tackle, guard or center. He has a massive upper body and a strong punch. Very strong. Schools like Baylor, Texas Tech and Kansas State have offered and a host of others are close.

4. Trevon Tate

The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder from Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High is not the biggest lineman on the list, but is fiercely competitive and plays with an aggressive style. Athletic. No offers are reported at this time, but they will come if he is adding necessary weight to play on the interior.

5. Josh Pelzel

The 6-foot-6, 305-pounder from Rockdale (Texas) High is another big-framed player, who already possesses the natural size and strength to man the position in college. He is hard to move and get around. Offers from Baylor, Rice, Texas Tech and Washington State.

Special Mention:
Kris Thigpen (Arlington Bowie – Texas), Tryston Mizerak (North Garland – Texas), Lemaefe Galei (Euless Trinity – Texas), Charlie Bray (Pottsboro – Texas)
