"(Lewis) gave me the number to call Coach Jones," said Palelei, who was getting geared up for a Friday afternoon track meet. "Coach Jones said I can come out to Hawaii, get reps right away and show off my talent.
"He asked if I had interest and said he would offer if I did. Coach Jones said I have a unique running style with acceleration and power; they can definitely use me."
"Daniel Lewis is cool," Palelei continued. "He's a good guy I'd like to get to know. I like Hawaii. I want to come out and see the campus for myself; see what schools fit best for me."
Arkansas is now showing interest.
"Their running backs coach told me he's new and said I can be a threat running and catching the ball," Palelei said. "He asked about me and wants to get to know me better."
Palelei is running in the 4 X 100 today at Dutchtown. He's 95% due to a slight injury that will prevent the crowd from seeing a rematch of Palelei and Dutchtown WR Corey McBride in the 100 meters.
"(McBride) barely beat me last time," Palelei said. "He's tall with that long stride and lean."
The 6-foot-2 McBride is has been regularly clocked in the 4.35 to 4.37 range.
