Ducks enter race for Thomas

Though leaving SEC country for the Pac-12 may seem like a stretch for a running back, don't count out the Oregon Ducks when it comes to the recruitment of five-star running back Racean Thomas. He picked up the offer on Monday and details to FOX Sports NEXT why it may go a long way.

"Oregon offered!" said Racean Thomas via text message on Monday. "Came right in."

The five-star Oxford (Ala.) talent is used to picking up offer from all over the country on a regular basis, but the Ducks' extension came sooner than he expected.

"I've been talking to them a lot, but they take some time to offer people," he explained on Friday. "They really want to get to know you."

After realizing the offer was his, Thomas admitted he was surprised.

"Coach [Gary] Campbell, the running back coach offered," he recalled. "I mean, I knew they had interest, but it was unexpected.

"He just said he wants me to visit and that he'll be here to see me in May."

Thomas, who has long been linked to the SEC and schools like standouts Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia and Tennessee, is higher on the Ducks than many would assume.

"That's about the only school, well it is the only school our west I'm highly considering," he added.

As to why, the 5-foot-11, 194-pounder is a fan of Oregon's system.

"That spread!" he said. "And how they run the ball as well as how much they run it."

Thomas, who plans on taking the recruiting process "slow" from this point forward, is currently ranked the No. 3 running back in the class of 2014 on FOX Sports NEXT/
