Spring Break Commitment for Phillips

FOX Sports NEXT was informed on some new information regarding Pearland linebacker Justin Phillips, who has just made his commitment.

While a number of players are partying on beaches and in night clubs, Pearland (TX) linebacker Justin Phillips decided to use his time wisely and make an unofficial trip to a school that had offered him a scholarship.

In fact, Oklahoma State was Phillips' first offer. And while being the first was not the deciding factor, the Pearland backer decided that being in Stillwater, OK was where he needed to be.

"Yeah, I just committed. We were up there Tuesday-Thursday and I got to learn everything about the school," Phillips said. "The coaches were cool and it just seemed like a good place for me, even after football."

In the end, the Cowboys earned the 6-foot, 215-pound Phillips' commitment over other programs including Boise State, Iowa State, Baylor and Northwestern. Phillips said that he is slated to play will of mike linebacker, to which Phillips said that it matters not to him what position the coaches want him to play.

It was this Sunday when Phillips called the Oklahoma State coaches.

"I called coach (Mike) Gundy and coach (Glenn) Spencer, the linebackers coach. They were excited," Phillips said. "My parents are excited too. It seemed like the right time and we did it.

"We are all in."
