Sam Set for UL Junior Day

New Orleans Bowl Champions Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are set to host a number of top athletes from the south at the UL Junior Day Saturday morning. One of those athletes is Opelousas's High Mandell Sam (6'0, 180), and he has strong interest from the Ragin' Cajuns.

Mandrell Sam is getting interest from a number of programs, but the Ragin' Cajuns have been hot on his trail recently. Besides the handwritten letters he has received from Coach Hudspeth and Coach Munoz, Sam has also visited spring practice.

"I went in and watched practice last Monday," Sam stated. "Coach Hudspeth and Coach Munoz told me that they sat down as a staff and watched my junior video. Coach Hudspeth said they really like my video and they are going to recruit me hard. "They wanted to make sure I come to junior day Saturday."

Sam, who recently worked out at the Houston Nike Camp against some of the top athletes in the region, thinks the Cajuns could be close to offering.

"They've sent me a number of handwritten letters and I've been to some of their practices last season too," Mandell mentioned. "I came in for several games last fall to, so I've seen what Coach Hudspeth is doing with the program at UL and I think they are close to offering me. I hope the offer because I like the staff and the direction of the program."

Mandell Sam hasn't lined up all of his summer camps yet, but he plans on attending a few for sure at this time.

"I got invited to the Dallas Nike Camp and I make that one," Sam stated. "I will probably go to LSU and UL camps for sure this summer. I'm not sure where I will camp after those, but I will look at others soon. After UL, I will be done with junior days and I'm going to focus on track with district coming up in April."

Sam stated he currently holds a 3.4 gpa and most schools are recruiting him as a receiver, including the Ragin' Cajuns.
