Tubman commits to WKU

Lloyd Tubman is the first Hilltopper commitment in the Class of 2014 for WKU and head coach Bobby Petrino.

It's no secret that WKU head coach Bobby Petrino wants to recruit the city of Louisville hard during his tenure on the Hill.

That trend continued yesterday when the Toppers added their first Class of 2014 commitment,Seneca HS defensive end Lloyd Tubman.

"They're the best fit for me right now," he said. "The coaching staff, school, they're all great."

Over the last year, Tubman went through a growth spurt from 6-foot-2, 190 pounds to 6-foot-4 and 230.

"Everywhere I go now, coaches are like 'wow'," he said. "Recruiting really picked up after that."

Tubman picked WKU over interest from several programs, including his hometown Louisville Cardinals.

He's being recruited by WKU assistant coach Jeff Brohm.

"It's always good to talk to him (Brohm)," Tubman said. "We always have great things to talk about."

Former Seneca standouts DaMarcus Smith and Tyrone Pearson could join Tubman on the field for the Hilltoppers down the road, a factor that Tubman said weighed in on his decision.

"It will be really great to play with them," he said. "We (Tubman and Pearson) both played on the same d-line for a year.

"I've learned a lot from him, it will be great to maybe line up next to each other in college."
