2016 Offensive Lineman Nabs SEC Ice Breaker

The recruiting process is often a long and drawn out undertaking. Some college football hopefuls work extremely hard to get on the recruiting radar as upperclassmen. 2016 standout offensive lineman Eli Johnson no longer has to sweat things out. The future four star picked up his first scholarship offer yesterday after an unofficial visit to Mississippi State.

"I got offered by Mississippi State today," said an excited Johnson on Saturday. "I went over there on an unofficial visit and met with all of the coaches.

"After I left, I got a message from Coach (Deshea) Townsend on twitter that they were ready to pull the trigger on an offer."

Growing up in Oxford, Mississippi with a name like Eli, Johnson clearly has some ties to the hometown Rebels of Ole Miss.

Johnson reports that when it comes to his college recruitment, he is not limiting his options based on his rooting allegiances.

"I am really excited about getting an offer from Mississippi State," said Johnson. "I have been working for this my whole life and my hard work is starting to pay off."

On Friday, Johnson made an unofficial visit to Ole Miss to meet with Coach Hugh Freeze and his coaching staff.

Johnson plans several other visits around the southeast over the course of the next few weeks and on into the summer camp sessions.
