2014 Intro: Escambia (Fla) OL one of the best

Escambia High has one of the top prep programs in the Florida Panhandle and one of their top returning prospects is interior offensive lineman George Rutherford.

George Rutherford put his name on the recruiting map with a strong junior season in 2012. He finished the season with 38 pancake blocks while playing on the interior of Escambia's offensive line.

At 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds, Rutherford has the ability to play either guard or center in college. He turned in a tremendous performance at the recent Step It Up Camp in Pensacola. He talked about that.

"It was great being able to compete against all that competition and a chance for me to get better," Rutherford said.

Rutherford has ideal strength already and plays with a nasty mean streak on the offensive line. He talked about what he believes separates him from others at his position.

"It's definitely my attitude and the way I use it on the field," he said.

While Rutherford is still waiting for his first scholarship offer, it's likely only a matter of time before they start coming his way.

"I like Duke, FSU, and Alabama," he said. "Being close to home and their commitment to academics (are what will be important)."
