Louisville football recruiting notebook

Cardinal Authority is tracking many of the football prospects the University of Louisville staff has offered in the Class of 2014. Here is a notebook of items checking in on a few of those prospects:

Jensen Beach, Fla., linebacker Xavier Preston holds seven offers, including one from the University of Louisville football staff.

The 6-foot-2, 218-pound Preston also has offers from South Florida, Central Florida, Rutgers, Memphis, Arkansas State and Illinois and is has heard a little from Miami, Florida and Tennessee among others.

Preston has been to South Florida, Central Florida and Miami but noted Louisville was a school he really wants to checkout.

"Louisville will definitely be a high consideration place for me," Preston said. "I've heard a lot of great things about coach (Charlie) Strong. Louisville is a great school and they play great football."

Preston mentioned he knows the Cardinals have a lot of players from the state of Florida, including one he knows – cornerback Terrell Floyd.

"Terrell Floyd came from the same area as me," Preston said. "Just seeing how successful he has been is nice for me to see. That's a big incentive."

Immokalee, Fla., High School running back D'Ernest Johnson committed to Florida last fall only to not have the commitment accepted by the school.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Johnson said he has offers from Georgia, Louisville, Mississippi, South Florida and others with Florida also showing interest.

"My options are all open right now," Johnson said. "Louisville is a really great program and they are one of my top schools.

"I'm just trying to build a bond with the coaches."

Johnson rushed for 1,111 yards and 14 TDs last season. He was named Offensive MVP last weekend at an Under Armour camp in Miami.

Cincinnati Colerain linebacker Tegray Scales is coming off an impressive junior season and is seeing his recruitment pick up.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Scales holds offers already from Louisville and Western Michigan and is hearing from a bunch of other schools.

Scales visited Vanderbilt last week and is also hearing from Indiana, North Carolina State and Michigan State.

"I like Louisville a lot," Scales told Bill Greene of Scout.com. "They are a program that is just going to get better and better under coach (Charlie) Strong."

*Belton Honea, S.C., Path High School linebacker Kendall Joseph picked up an offer from Clemson. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Joseph also has offers from U of L, UCLA, Appalachian State and Furman.

Palm Beach, Fla., Bayside linebacker Greg Miclisse now has upwards of 25 scholarship offers, including U of L, LSU, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Washington and Missouri.
