McCray Ready For Spring Ball

FOX Sports NEXT caught up with Cy Falls defensive back Tre'lan McCray, from Cypress, Texas, who was participating in the Next Level Athlete Video Showcase last weekend. He talked about this and the interest he has coming from Division I colleges.

This upcoming spring could be big for a number of athletes. One of those in particular is Houston (TX) Cy Falls defensive back Tre'lan McCray.

After missing a great deal of last season, McCray is ready to show these college coaches that he is ready to play ball football at the highest level.

"This past year quite disappointing for me because I was hurt for most of the year. But when I came back I started at cornerback, after making the transition from safety," McCray said. "I finished up playing about three games with around 14 tackles, two pass deflections."

Sure that may not seem like eye-popping numbers at first sight, but due to the shortened season and after watching the 5-foot-9, 170-pound McCray at the Next Level Athlete Video Showcase, there could be reason for there not being much action his direction.

He showed the ability to match up well with receivers, stayed in their hip pockets and made nice breaks on passes. And that was just what was seen in a short time while in drills and one-on-ones.

Clearly college coaches are seeing one in the same due to the interest that is coming to McCray at the moment.

"I have no offers, but Oklahoma State and Arkansas are looking at me. I also have gotten letters from Duke, New Mexico and TCU," McCray said.

So far, McCray has made only one junior day, and that was to Stillwater for on the campus of Oklahoma State. He stated that he enjoyed the visit and the "facilities and the coaches were nice."

Now it's time to get ready for the next step and that is spring ball and the upcoming camp season.

"At NLA, I think I performed well in drills. Of course, there is always room for improvement. But in the one-on-ones, I think I did good," McCray said. "I will continue going to camps and hopefully perform well this spring and grab some offers."
