SMU jumps for Westerfield

The Frisco (Tx) Wakeland linebacker now holds a trio of offers.

"SMU offered," reported Noah Westerfield Wednesday afternoon, following his trip to campus for the Mustangs' morning practice.

"After practice, they took me on a tour of the facilities. Coach Mason and I then sat down in his office. He told me he was real excited about me, and he offered me."

SMU joins New Mexico and Fresno State in the mix for the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder. Westerfield was particularly excited about this one.

"This is a big one," he said. "I was (pleasantly) surprised by just how nice the campus was, the facilities… some of the statistics really stuck out, how I could get my masters if that was on my agenda. I know they want me on the field, but it's nice to know they're willing to help me out off the field, too."

"It was a very well coached practice, as far as technique and teaching. I really enjoyed it… I could definitely see myself there."

You can catch Westerfield and hundreds of other top 2014 prospects in action at the Nike Football Training Camp in Allen, Texas Sunday.
